Monument features dramatic gothic architecture with more than 100 lifesize figures depicting Garfield’s life, and a subterranean crypt
Added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1973
Home of the only presidential casket on full display for the public
As part of restoration efforts last summer, Universal was brought in to design staging and provide access to the site’s exterior stone elements. The crypt level was built with vaulted ceilings. This presented our team with a unique engineering challenge to carry and transfer leg loads to the structural foundation due to the excessive dead load of the more than 136′ high scaffold.
